L.P. Beuthan, born to an Italian mother and German father, grew up across Europe before beginning his career in film as a camera assistant after high school.

At 21, he moved to Tokyo, balancing on-set work with studying Japanese while independently writing and directing his own short films. Since his first short, Umbra (2020), he has continued to build a body of work spanning award-winning films, music videos, and commercials.

His directing style blends a documentary-like realism with emotionally driven storytelling, placing characters and their inner conflicts at the center. Drawing from both European sensibilities and Japanese influences, ranging from Murakami’s introspective narratives to Miyazaki’s sense of wonder, his work explores human drama within heightened or fantastical worlds.
